A little something from Frank’s Battle Basement:
Today The newly retired Belgian Bruiser and I played a new game called “0200 Hundred Hours”. If you are unfamiliar with it, it is a WW2 Special Ops skirmish-level raiding game. What’s different about it is that the games all take place at night….so stealth and visibility are key. The defenders have sentries and some other characters who have guard patrol routes that they follow until the attackers either reveal themselves or make too much noise…and the alarm is raised. The game only involves around 10 or so figures on each side, or less. It is most ideally suited to just two players…but by splitting the forces, maybe 4 could play. The game is designed for using 28mm figures, but 20mm worked just as well.
Today’s scenario (My first game since my surgery), a Royal Marine Commando element and a French Resistance element were conducting a coordinated attack to capture a German General, and a secondary mission – to blow-up a German Ammunition freighter. Here’s some pictures of today’s game:

Unfortunately, Major Ginion OBE, Royal Marine Commando leader, made so much noise getting onto the dock, that he gave away the presence of most of his unit members…but he did succeed (after two tries) to stab poor Kriegsmarine Sentry ‘Hans’ to death.
Things went downhill from there. While trying to board the Freighter full of weapons and ammo, Ginion’s Commandos accidentally dropped their only demo charge (Meant to blow-up the ship) into the water – where it exploded harmlessly.
His plans dashed – Major Ginion, mimicking Kristi Noem,, made three grenade attacks on a poor helpless Guard dog (and his hapless handler) holed-up in a house…before killing it.
The Destruction of the French Resistance element coordinating the attack with the Commandos came to a swift end…along with the game…when a courageous German NCO with an MP-40 burst out of the house and gunned them down before succumbing to wounds himself (Knights Cross for him!) Another German Sentry jumped over the wall and killed the Resistance leader with a knife!
A note on my French Buildings that you might find interesting, is that they are foam board and paper coverings. Of interest is that all the outsides of these buildings are actually photographs of actual period French buildings in Normandy. The guy who helped me construct these some years back, took my plans/concepts for what I wanted and used photos he took from real buildings to create these.
